(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3: The
British Academy of Sport (BAS) and the Romanian Embassy in Kuwait organized the
sixth International Basketball
Tournament between Embassies in Kuwait on Friday, Nov 29 at the BSK Campus.
A total of 8 teams represented
their countries: Egypt, Greece, Lebanon, Mongolia, Palestine, Philippines,
Romania and USA. The opening ceremony saw the team's parade with their flags
and in national costume past the reviewing stand of VIPs, five ambassadors
including the patron of the tournament and HE the Romanian Ambassador Daniel
Tanase. The captains drew the numbers, the games began and the spectators from
the various communities spurred on their teams with great national pride.
It was an amazing day with very
strong teams and challenging matches. The semifinals were played between USA
against Romania and Palestine against Egypt.
The winners of the 'Challenge Cup' for the first time are USA Team who
played a great final game against the Egypt Team.
The Director of British Academy
of Sport, Lucian Anisia, the BSK Founder Madam Vera Al Mutawa, joined the
Romanian Ambassador on stage and the special guest was Camelia Potec an Olympic
and Multiple European Champion in Swimming from Romania. They all offered a
lively Presentation ceremony when medals and certificates were distributed to
everyone.
This year the event was sponsored
by: Ecco, Royale Hayat, 4FEST Jumeirah Hotel, Qatar Airways, FCM Travel
Solutions and Decathlon. The media partner was Times Kuwait.
Since 2014 it has become a
tradition at BAS to organize high caliber community sports events and invite
all the Embassies to participate every February and March in a Volleyball
Tournament and every November in a Basketball Tournament. Full details of all
