DOHA: The Third Local Dates Festival at the Souq Waqif has attracted more than 39,000 visitors and more than 142,000 tonnes of dates sold since the start of the festival on July 19.
The festival will continue until August 4 and being organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), in collaboration with the Waqif Market Administration.
It offers many varieties of fresh dates at affordable prices. Also, the number of local participating farms increased from 57 last year to 73 this year.
The total sales of fresh dates on Monday included 82.618kg of khalas, 20.971kg Shishi, 23.822kg Khanizi, 9.919kg Barhi and 5.248kg of other types. The number of visitors to the festival since its inauguration is about 39, 500 visitors of different age.
The festival comes within the framework of supporting farms and encouraging them to display and market their products and providing fresh dates to people at lower prices compared to the markets.
