(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) China defeated Syria 31-25 to finish ninth in the Asian Men's Junior (U21) Handball Championship on the penultimate day of the event in Salalah on Wednesday. In the other playoff matches to decide the placements between ninth and 14th spots, Chinese Taipei trounced Yemen 58-28 to finish tenth while India beat Lebanon 43-33 to end at 11th spot. Lebanon came 12th while Syria was 13th and Yemen had to be content with the wooden spoon.
On Thursday, the championship will conclude with the final match between South Korea and Japan with the third match playoff between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia to precede the summit clash.
The top-three teams will qualify for the IHF Men's World Junior Championship in Spain next July-August.
H E Sheikh Saad al Saadi, the Minister of Sports Affairs, will be the chief guest on the final day and give away the awards.
Oman had finished eighth on Tuesday in the 14-nation tournament.
