Commandos not involved in Faryab incident: Gen. Waziri

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Special Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Bismillah Waziri has rejected the commando forces€™ involvement in recent clashes in northwestern Faryab province.

Gen. Waziri€™s rejection follows a video footage that shows security forces mistreating bodyguards of Nizamuddin Qaisari after his detention.

Gen. Waziri was speaking at a gathering in Reshkhour area marking the inauguration of 25th commando forces battalion where 700 new commando forces will receive training.

Waziri said commando forces were currently active on the battlefield in 77 districts of the country and had never retreated a single step.

He added 4,000 commando forces were currently fighting the enemy and another 4,000 were ready to serve and the remaining 60 percent would be made functional as well.

€œSome people spread conspiracies against commando force which is Afghanistan€™s national force and I am its commander, I never order killing or harassment of anyone,€ he said.

Wazir added commando forces kept distance from small issues, but if the leaders issued directives, the force would act to implement the orders.

For the past two years, commando forces have been fighting in Sar-i-Pul and Faryab provinces, rendering sacrifices, he said, adding Hazara, Pashtun and Tajik were among their ranks.

He hailed the performance of commando forces and added it was the only unit which had broken the back of the enemy. The enemy wanted to defame the forces but they would not be able to turn their dream into reality.
