Afghanistan: 62 militants, 9 policemen die in battles


(MENAFN) A military spokesman in the southern region declared the an average of 62 militants have died in air attacks carried out by Afghan air force in south Afghanistan's Kandahar province over the past 24 hours.

Yahya Alavi confirmed: "The army aircrafts targeted the hideouts of Taliban militants in Maroof district of southern Kandahar province several times over the past 24 hours, as a result 62 militants including a local commander of the insurgent group have been killed and three others injured,".

In a different case, nine police officers have died as seven more were wounded amid a battle with the Taliban militants in the neighboring Arghistan district of Kandahar province, according to spokesman for provincial governor, Dawood Ahmady.

Taliban militants haven't made any statements yet.
