Minister: Jordan understands Syrian people's suffering but domestic issues remain priority

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, July 1 (Petra) -- State Minister for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson, Jumana Ghunimat, on Sunday said Jordan is well aware of the suffering inflicting the Syrian people inside Syria but there are national priorities, including security and economy, the Kingdom takes into consideration .

Speaking to the media on the Jordanian-Syrian borders, the minister said that "everyone knows that there are armed groups inside Syria and that Jordan can't take the risk of receiving more refugees". She affirmed that the Kingdom is ready, and in fact has started, to extend humanitarian and relief assistance to the Syrian brothers inside Syrian territory.

Ghunimat renewed Jordan's call for finding a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria and this is a collective responsibility the international community must shoulder. She stressed that "what is happening in Syria is not the responsibility or fault of Jordan, but the fault of all parties that failed to reach a political solution to end the suffering of the Syrian people." Regarding the establishment of safe zone inside Syrian territory, the minister said that this is a Jordanian demand in the first place, and Jordan also calls for a return to the de-escalation agreement, which may provide a solution to the pressures on the Kingdom.
