PLO calls on E Jerusalem Palestinians not to participate in Israeli elections

(MENAFN) Palestinians in East Jerusalem have been urged Tuesday by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to avoid casting a vote for the upcoming Israeli municipal elections.

The PLO executive committee strongly stands against Palestinians contributing in the occupied city in the elections since it would present legitimacy to the illegal occupation, as stated PLO Secretary General Saeb Erekat.

In the statement, the secretary generated noted "any participation in the elections will assist the Israeli establishment in promoting the 'Greater Jerusalem' project."

The statement added that Israeli policies seek to diminish "Palestinian presence in the city while multiplying the number of illegal settlers, turning it into a Jewish city and imposing Israeli law on the city."
