Iraq military kills IS leader, five supporters


(MENAFN) The Iraqi military declared that the security forces have shot a head of the Islamic State (IS) militant group along with five more of his supporters, dead, amid a mission in Iraq's central province of Salahudin.

Salahudin provincial operations command confirmed that the security forces raided an IS hideout at the desert close to the town of Shirqat, around 280 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, leaving Abu Islam al-Iraqi, a major regional IS leader, and five insurgents, dead.

Abu Islam al-Iraqi was suspected to be planner of bombings and kidnaps at fake checkpoints against Iraqi civilians and security members.
