England cricket team has been in a different dimension this year. They have been breaking records at will.

In the second match against Australia, they scripted history when they scored 481-6, the highest ever ODI total in history.

Interestingly, Morgan and his men only broke their earlier record of the highest total (444).

Here we take a look at unique records held by England.


First ODI fifty and ton were slammed by Englishmen

England John Edrich holds the record for slamming first ever ODI fifty. It was scored against Australia in 1971 and came in a losing cause. Dennis Amiss of England was the first batsman to score an ODI century. He achieved the feat against Australia (1972).

England's Chris Woakes holds the record for the highest score at number 8 in an ODI.

The all-rounder scored an unbeaten 95 against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge in June 2016.

The duo had a partnership of 177 runs against New Zealand at Edgbaston (2015).

Apart from the highest total in ODIs, England are proud holders of the record for the biggest win margin by balls remaining. They achieved this feat when they chased down Canada's target of 46 with 277 balls to spare in June 1979.

England broke the record for the biggest win, by runs, in Test cricket, when they beat Australia by 675 runs at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground in 1928-29.

The Three Lions also hold the record for the biggest win margin by an innings.

They achieved it when they defeated Australia by an innings and 579 runs at London in 1938.

Former England captain Alastair Cook holds the record for the highest individual score by an opener while carrying the bat.

Cook scored 244* against Australia in Melbourne last Ashes.

Cook has also scored the most runs by an opener in Test cricket with 12,145 runs to his name.

He has scored at an average of 45.65 which also includes 32 hundreds.

Graham Gooch has scored most runs in a Test match.

The former England cricketer scored 456 against India, 333 in the first innings and 123 in the second innings at Lord's in 1990.

England, in the 1921 Ashes series, used as many as 30 players in five games which till date remains a world record.

Jim Laker holds the record for the best bowling figures in an innings of a Test match when he bagged 10-53 against Australia in the second innings at Old Trafford in 1956.


First triple hundred in Test cricket

The feat came against Australia when he scored 287 at the Sydney Cricket ground in 1903-04.

Andy Sandham was the first player to score a triple hundred in Test cricket.

He slammed 325 in Kingston in 1929-30.
