Carnegie Mellon Qatar and Qapco sign MoU


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) to enhance co-operation on education, research and community development.
The MoU was signed by CMU-Q dean Michael Trick and Qapco managing director and CEO Dr Mohamed Yousef al-Mulla, at a special ceremony recently. According to the agreement, there will be internship opportunities for CMU-Q students at Qapco, as well as training sessions at CMU-Q for the company's executive leadership.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr al-Mulla remarked, 'At the heart of Qapco's growth and success is our commitment to human capital through educating the next generation of leaders. We are excited to work with Carnegie Mellon Qatar to help provide opportunities and mentorship to young professionals in business, technology and science.
Dean Trick further elaborated, 'Working with industry offers an important dimension to the education of our students. The Carnegie Mellon approach to education uses real-world problem sets, so our students learn to create practical solutions that can affect real change. It is our pleasure to work with Qapco, who has a strong commitment to supporting education and the development of human capital in Qatar.
The first petrochemical company in the Arabian Gulf, Qapco's mission centres on developing a talented workforce that can drive sustainable growth, innovation in processes, products, research and development, as well as safeguarding health, safety, and the environment.
CMU-Q offers degree programmes in biological sciences, business administration, computer science, information systems and computational biology.
