Oman- 81% use eGov services: ITA survey


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Eighty-one per cent of people interviewed by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) in a recent survey have said that they use one or more of the various eServices provided by different government agencies.

The survey which was conducted fromMarch 1 to 24focused on measuring the satisfaction of individuals with the eGovernment services of the Ministry of Manpower (MoM), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), ROP and the Ministry of Health (MoH). The survey targeted citizens and residents aged between 18 and 59 years.

The eServices of ROP topped the list in terms of use at 71 per cent among the surveyed people. This was followed by the eServices of MoM at 25 per cent among those surveyed. MoCI's Invest Easy portal users comprised nine per cent of the sample while seven per cent benefited from the eHealth portal.

The survey was conducted through interviews with citizens and residents at commercial centres in Muscat, Dhofar, Buraimi, Dakhliyah and North Batinah. It aimed to measure the satisfaction of people on the use of government eServices in terms of their availability through various channels such as smartphone applications and websites.

It also assessed the accessibility and usability of government eServices as well as satisfaction with the electronic payment procedures.

The results of the survey show that 94 per cent of the respondents were satisfied with the availability of eServices of ROP through various channels such as smartphone applications and the website, while 90 per cent were satisfied with their ease of use.

Seventy-five per cent were satisfied with the availability of support for the user while satisfaction with the ease of payment procedures was 78 per cent among those surveyed.

In case of MoM's eServices, 69 per cent of the respondents accessed through the smartphone application and website, 62 per cent were satisfied with the ease of use while 54 per cent were satisfied with the ease of payment procedures.

Forty-seven per cent of the total beneficiaries were also happy with the support services.

Satisfaction with the availability of services on the Invest Easy portal was 72 per cent, while 63 per cent were satisfied with the ease of using the portal, 63 per cent with the ease of payment procedures, and 50 per cent satisfied with the support services, ITA said..

On the electronic services of MoH, 71 per cent of respondents expressed their satisfaction of accessing through different channels (such as smartphone applications, the website, etc.) while 63 per cent expressed their satisfaction with the availability of support services.

However, 59 per cent were satisfied with the ease of use and 58 per cent with the ease of payment procedures.

Survey sample

The ITA survey saw 2,101 participants with 84 per cent being Omanis while 16 per cent were residents. Eighty-three per cent of participants were males while 17 per cent females.

Sharifa bint Mohammed al Maskari, director, International Relations and Information at ITA, said, 'We conduct surveys periodically to measure the awareness and satisfaction of individuals with regard to the use of eServices. The results of the surveys are shared with the concerned entities for taking appropriate decisions.'
