Over the last 20 World Cup editions, players have set several mind boggling records. Some of these records are yet to be broken.

The 2018 edition has already seen certain interesting records being scripted.

Uruguay coach Tabárez scripts a new record

This term, Uruguay coach Oscar Tabárez wrote a new chapter in the history of FIFA World Cup.

The 71-year-old became the first manager to appear in four World Cups with the same team.

This record was set in the second match of the tournament when Uruguay faced Egypt.

He had managed Uruguay in 1990, 2010 and 2014 prior to this edition in Russia.


Marquez joins an elite list
List


Mexico's Rafael Marquez became only the third player in the history of the tournament to appear in five editions.

The 39-year-old skipper scripted the record in the 79th minute after coming on against Germany.

He joined the likes of former Mexican hero Antonio Carbajal and legendary Lothar Matthaus of Germany.

A special feat indeed!


Kane magic sees England set new records
Hurri'Kane'


Harry Kane scored a brace against Tunisia in their Group G opener and became the first English player to score a brace in the World Cup since 1990.

This was also the talisman's first set of World Cup goals.

His injury-time winner guided England to their first win in the opening game of a major tournament since 2006.

Belgium's Dries Mertens became the first player to score in two different World Cups for his nation since Marc Wilmots in 1998 and 2002.

Sweden accounted for their first ever win in an opening match since 1958, when they beat Mexico.

Germany became the fourth nation to lose their opening tie of the group stage after being the title holders.
