Conflicting reports on unprecedented in Egyptian football Al Assiouty Sport takeover

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) class="p1">The board of directors of the Al Assiouty Sport football team, headed by Mahmoud Al-Assiouty, officially announced on Monday the approval of the acquisition of the team to an unnamed company that requested the purchase.

However, Al-Assiouty denied few hours after the initial announcement, and claimed that his Facebook account was hacked, and that the statement was issued by the hackers, in which he announced reaching a final agreement with a company—without disclosing its name—to sell the team, and that the team's name will be changed to Al-Ahram, indicating that the acquisition is only for the football team, not the whole sports club.

Yet, sources inside the club told Daily News Egypt, that the acquisition deal is still standing, and that Al-Assiouty hacking claims are only for media until the deal is officially completed. Several reports have linked Turki Al-Sheikh, the Saudi sports administrator and president of the Arab Football Federation, and Saudi Arabia's Al-Sahel to the club's takeover.

In May, then Al Ahly's honorary president, Al-Sheikh announced on his Facebook page that he will leave his position at Al Ahly.

Al-Sheikh played a significant role at the club through providing financial support. However, the relationship between him and Al Ahly fans came to an end when the team's negotiations with the Argentinean manager Ramon Diaz failed and he was appointed as the new manager of Jeddah's Al-Ittihad.

Moreover, he also claimed that he supported Mahmoud El Khatib with EGP 6m during his campaign and that he supported the club with almost EGP 260m.
