Jordanian King: Jerusalem issue must be settled through negotiations

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, June 18 (KUNA) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan stressed Monday that the status of Jerusalem must be settled as part of final status issues on the basis of the two-state solution. The only way to achieve peace and stability in the region is by reaching a two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel in peace and security, the King affirmed during a meeting with the visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as quoted by the Jordanian Royal Court.
He emphasized that Jordan would continue to play its historic role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem city.
The meeting also tackled the stalled peace process and the importance of exerting efforts to end the conflict.
According to the statement, Netanyahu's visit to Jordan was short and the two sides discussed a number of bilateral issues, including the Red Sea-Dead Sea Water Conveyance Project, which will have a positive impact on Jordan, the West Bank, and Israel. (end) ab.mb
