IEC chief Abdul Baday Sayyad told a press conference here that some governors, police chiefs and district chiefs were interfering in the voter registration process or refusing to cooperate.

Giving an example, he cited the interference of the police chief for Kandahar province, Gen. Abdur Raziq, in elections and said: 'Gen. Raziq behaves discriminatively with some possible candidates and creates problems for others in Kandahar.'

That was the reason possible candidates were unable to submit their nomination documents to the IEC office on time, he added.

Sayyad said the issue had several times been shared with government officials for prevention of interference.

The Kandahar police chief has not yet commented about the allegation.
