Oman- PDO staff appeal raises RO 166,000 for cyclone hit commuities

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A charity appeal by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) employees to help the affected people of Cyclone Mekunu has raised a total of RO 166,000. The money will be used to repair houses damaged in the storms and will be divided between the southern wilayats in Dhofar and residents' property that have been damaged in the Company's concession area.

PDO's External Affairs & Value Creation Director Mr Abdul-Amir Abdul-Hussein Al Ajmi presented the cheque to the Oman Charitable Organisation's (OCO) Executive Chairman Mr Ali Ibrahim Shenoon Al Raisi at the Company's headquarters. The OCO will ensure the money raised will be used as effectively as possible to help relieve the suffering of the many people who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

In a separate announcement earlier this week, PDO announced that the Company was donating RO 5 million to support affected people and the ongoing recovery efforts in the wake of last month's tropical storm which hit Dhofar and Al Wusta Governorates.

'Our staff have been extremely generous in their donations and are keen to help the many people who lost so much to rebuild their lives and homes after this natural disaster. The OCO will ensure that the money reaches the people who are in most need as quickly as possible,' said Mr Al Ajmi.

PDO has an established record of holding staff charity appeals backed by the Company to support the affected people of natural disasters and conflicts. Examples in recent years include two appeals for the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, support for the Rohingya refugees and fundraising efforts for victims of the Nepal earthquake, the Syrian civil war, the Gaza conflict and typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
