DUBAI, 10th June, 2018 (WAM) -- Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of the Office of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Al Maktoum Foundation, praised the support of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, who is also the Honorary President of the University of Balamand in Lebanon and the Sheikh Nahyan Centre for Arab Studies and the Dialogue of Civilisations, and welcomed the university's decision to open a branch in the UAE at the centre.
He made his statement while receiving a delegation from the university, led by Dr. Elie Salem, President of the University, who offered him membership in the board of trustees of the university's branch at the centre. The delegation also presented the university's plan to open a branch in Dubai, which will start its engineering, science and public services courses next September.
Al Sayegh thanked the delegation and wished the centre success in fulfilling its mission to promote Arabic studies and Islamic-Christian dialogue, while highlighting the regional and international importance of the dialogue of civilisations.
Dr. Salem thanked Al Sayegh for accepting his membership in the branch's board of trustees.
The delegation included Michael Najjar, Vice President of the University for Administration Development and Public Relations, and Dr. Waleed Ibrahim Mbayad, Vice President and Executive Director of the University in Dubai.
The centre will award master's degrees in Arabic, Islamic and Christian studies, as well as PhDs in related areas.
The centre will host prominent scholars and hold cooperation agreements with similar centres and intellectual and research programmes from around the world, as well as conferences, seminars and training courses on the dialogue of civilisations.
