Syria's president son to participate in Romania's Math Olympiad


(MENAFN) This year's edition of the International Math Olympiad (IMO) in Romania, planned to take place in Cluj-Napoca on July 3-14 will have a special "guest"; the son of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

Young Hafez al-Assad will participate in the event with local authorities telling NewsTeam agency "that they are prepared to ensure the security of Hafez al-Assad, who will be guarded by bodyguards during his stay in Romania", romania-insider.com reads.

The 2018 International Math Olympiad, the 59th such organisation, is expected to attract more than 1 000 participants, "700 of them students, from 120 countries."

The event was first launched in Romania in 1959
