Saudi Arabia tests 5G network, first in MENA

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabian Al Khobar has completed its trial of a 5G network as part of a part of a programme of which begun in the first week of Ramadan, marking the country as the first in the MENA region to conduct such a move.

It comes soon after the ICT regulator, the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) started issuing licenses for testing the 5G mobile network through 100 MHz channels in the bandwidth of 3.6 GHz to 3.8 GHz.

The UN's International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has hailed the move in a report it released.

The statement said "because the capabilities of this technology are very high, it will pave the way for the development of other technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality and robots."
