St Vincent Health Minister Calls For Taiwan's Inclusion In WHA

(MENAFNEditorial) (By Ernesto Cooke) - St Vincent and the Grenadines Minister of Health Hon Luke Browne have again called for Taiwan's inclusion into the World Health Organisation.

Browne reiterated St Vincent position at the 71st World Health Assembly being held in Geneva.

The Health Minister says that St. Vincent and the Grenadines supports the call for Taiwan to be allowed to participate in the World Health Assembly.

The absence of Taiwan from this forum is an unfortunate result of cross-strait politics that should have no bearing on matters of health, he said.

Browne said his country wishes that the relevant parties will make every effort to peacefully resolve this deeply contentious matter with regard for the principle of inclusion for the sake of the health and welfare of humanity.

'This is the humble request of a small Caribbean nation which maintains respect for all sides'.

On Monday 21st May, 2018 several small island states came to Taiwan's defense, invoking the principles under the Sustainable Development Goals of leaving no one behind.

They argued that if the assembly is 'truly committed to these principles,' they will find a way to 'fully include' Taiwan and its people.
