(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Beit Al Khair Society (Baks), as part of a series of diverse projects meant to mark the holy month of Ramadan, is to distribute 500,000 free Iftar meals at 50 sites, tents and mosques in Dubai and the northern emirates.
The Society, based in Dubai, has started distributing the free Iftar meals, worth Dh5 million, from the very beginning of Ramadan, according to Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, general director of Baks.
"The Iftar meal programme is part of the Society Ramadan campaign, in which Dh90 million will be spent on vulnerable families in the holy month this year."
The biggest of all tents is the 'Zayed Al Khair' installed at the Muhaisana-2 area, he added. "This massive tent can accommodate up to 2,000 people every day."
The project is aimed at ease the suffering of fasting people, including the poor, the needy, passersby, low-income workers, and bachelors, he explained. "The Iftar meal programme, derived from the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him), goes with the UAE traditions, and the values of generosity and feeding food to vulnerable people."
The project is being carried out in collaboration with 30 entities, along with other charities collected from the philanthropists here," he said, paying tributes to them all, mainly the Dubai Municipality, Emirates Islamic Bank, and Dubai Courts.
Complete hot meals are provided under this project. "The food being served is strictly monitored to ensure that all suppliers observe the safety conditions due."
Al Awadhi said Beit Al Khair had distributed meat shares to 550 families. "Up to 282 carcass animals, worth over Dh155,000, have been slaughtered for this project."
