- In a landmark decision, the Government has passed 31st amendment bill 2017, approving the merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhttunkhwa (KP).
- In the National Assembly 229 votes were pulled in favor of FATA merger with KP while 01 pulled in its opposition.
- Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazal) and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) staged a walked out from the National Assembly ahead of the vote on FATA merger with KP.
- FCR will be completely abolished.
- After the merger, the new KP province will gain 23 seats in the provincial Assembly.
- The KP Assembly currently has 124 seats and the Fata merger will bring in additional 23, increasing the number of total seats in the provincial Assembly to 147.
- Federal Government will provide each year One billion USD for the development of FATA to bring at par with rest o f Pakistan.
- The election in FATA for KP assembly will take place next year in 2018.
- Local bodies election in FATA will also be held next year.
- After passing of this bill, the special powers of President of Pakistan and Governor are abolished.
- FATA and PATA will be exempted from tax for next five years.
- The special status of Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (PATA) that include Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Kohistan and Kala Dhaka will also be abolished.
