Oman- MoT contracts private firm to provide rescue services in Wadi Bani Khalid

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has contracted a private company to provide rescue and ambulance services at the popular Wadi Bani Khalid site in North Sharqiyah. Water bodies at Wadi Bani Khalid are popular among tourists throughout the year.

MoT said that 182,648 people visited the wadis in the wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid last year compared to 156,129 visitors in 2016, an increase of 17 per cent. Talal bin Khalfan al Shu'aibi, director, Department of Tourism in North Sharqiyah said that wadis in Wadi Bani Khalid are one of the most visited sites in the sultanate.

'The number of tourists to the area is rising. Many visitors love to take a dip in the wadi waters. There are chances of accidents too. Keeping that in mind, the ministry has contracted Arab Beach Company to provide rescue and ambulance services around wadis in the wilayat. It comprises seven Omani rescue and first-aid specialists.'

Shu'aibi said that wadis in the wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid receive water flows throughout the year. 'Water flows through narrow corridors on the southern side of the eastern Al Hajar Mountains where a traditional dam was built to provide water for the irrigation of plants and date palms in the wadi located in the area of Maqil.

'The beauty of this valley is manifested in the clear ponds with fish in them. In addition to spectacular sceneries, there are walkways and old houses surrounding the ponds, which encourage visitors to enjoy the beauty of this area.' He said that the wilayat is located on the dual carriageway coming from Bidiyah and heading to Sur and around 250km from Muscat.
