Oman- TRA activates emergency plan for Mekunu


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Wednesday held a meeting with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) and telecom operators.

The meeting was held within the framework of joint efforts to address the potential damages to communications networks due to Tropical Cyclone Mekunu in the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta. The meeting was chaired by the TRA deputy CEO for Frequency Spectrum in the presence of representatives of MoTC, and telecom operators Omantel, Ooredoo, Awasr and Oman Broadband Company.

The meeting discussed activating emergency plans to address the problems that may arise from this weather condition and assess the preparation. The meeting also reviewed a number of precautionary steps as per the emergency plan including the readiness of the emergency team to work round-the-clock to ensure the operation of communication networks during and after the tropical condition and ensuring all the teams carry out their duties efficiently.

TRA has urged telecom operators to check the readiness of domestic roaming in Dhofar for usage if the need arises.
