Oman- Astronomical Observatory of Dhofar forms team to spread awareness

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The head of Astronomical Observatory of Dhofar has urged people to exercise caution as Tropical Cyclone Mekunu approaches.

The society has also formed a team to spread awareness through social media channels. 'We expect heavy rain, overflowing wadis and torrential flooding. All these things may cause power outages. The high-intensity winds may also cause electricity poles to fall, disrupt water supply and interrupt communications for at least two days,' Dr Eng Awad Said al Sadooni, head of Astronomical Observatory of Dhofar said.

Dr Eng Sadooni said, 'We have formed a team of 60 members to warn people in Dhofar to be cautious through social media sites such as Facebook and WhatsApp.' He said it was necessary for the electricity, water companies and the municipality to work together to deal with the damages of the cyclone.

'I hope the electricity, water and communications companies provide teams to help people. 'The municipality will have to help open roads, when cut off. We also hope that logistical support will be provided to tackle the sewage system so that it can absorb the rainwater during the two days.'
