Pakistan- Transgender people to contest election in KP, Punjab and Sindh


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Two transgender people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have decided to contest the forthcoming general elections. Farzana will contest election on NA-3 while Arzo will contest on a provincial assembly seat from Peshawar.

The announcement was made after a meeting between officials of Election Commission of Pakistan and Transgender people in Islamabad.

Transgender people organization from across the country participated in the meeting, said TransAction, an organization that work for welfare of the community.

TransAction in a statement said that several transgender also announced to contest elections on several constituencies in Punjab and Sindh.

'Khwaja Saras would participate in elections as candidates and voters in Pakistan,' said Qamar Nasim, head of Blue Veins organization. He said that a steep rise in cases of torture on transgender people has been observed in Pakistan and call for protection of their life and properties.

It should be noted that Nayab Ali, a transgender, had announced to contest election in NA-141 as independent candidate from Okara. Nayab is doing B.Sc from Punjab University.
