Oman, Yemen on alert as tropical cyclone nears


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A low pressure weather system has caused a tropical cyclone over the Arabian Sea and is expected to intensify in the coming days, Oman's meteorology department said in a statement.

Officials at the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) said that a tropical depression has formed in the southern part of the Arabian Sea.

The storm had centred in the southwest of the Arabian Sea-latitude 9N and longitude 60E-and was 1,000km from Salalah in Oman, the authorities said.

According to Accuweather report, the landfall is currently expected near Salalah and the border of Oman and Yemen most likely on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Meanwhile in UAE, it was a sunny morning on Wednesday with the minimum temperature recorded at 20.7C.

The National Centre of Meteorology(NCM) expects the weather in to be partly cloudy in general and hazy at times. The centre also said there will be a chance of convective clouds forming in the east in the afternoon with a rise intemperature .

- ?????? ?????? ??????? (@NCMS_media) May 23, 2018 The maximum temperature on Monday settled at 44.3C inSweihan at 1:45pm, while the minimum temperature on Wednesday morning was recorded at 20.7C in Jais Mountain at 2:15am.

Wednesday's maximum temperature likely to hover around 44C.

Light to moderate winds will blow in general causing blowing dustat times. "The relative humidity is likely to increase during the night and tomorrow early morning," the statement added.
