England cricket director Andrew Strauss will stand down from his post temporarily.

The former cricketer is seeking some time out from the sport to help his wife Ruth battle cancer.

Former Zimbabwe batsman and current coach of England second string set-up, Andy Flower will step in to fill Strauss shoes in his absence.

"My wife was diagnosed with cancer. We are very lucky she has been very well up to now although she is starting a new treatment on Friday which is going to be more challenging...I am going to be stepping back." Strauss said.

England are up against Pakistan at Lord's on Thursday where they will play the first of the two-match Test series.

The Englishmen will be hoping to get a win under their belt after a miserable 2017/18.

England failed to win any of their seven Tests in Australia and New Zealand last season and will look to set that record straight at the Lord's.

However, Strauss has ensured that the players will continue to be on their best behaviour even in his absence.

The policies started by Strauss will remain in place.

For instance, The midnight curfew which was established in Australia, courtesy of head-butt of Jonny Bairstow to Cameron Bancroft, will not be lifted.
