The Blood Donation Drive organised by the team of Abeer was in association with 'We Help', an NGO dedicated for charitable purpose and All Kerala Muscat Women's Association. The donors were also offered a free cholesterol check at the venue.
The event saw a good turnout of people and the effort was well appreciated by the officials at the Central Blood Bank, Ministry of Health.
Blood donation is a simple process that requires less than an hour. Any individual above the age of 17 years and weighing not less than 50kg and in good health can donate blood within an interval of 56 days.
Every three seconds, someone needs blood and one in every ten hospitalised individuals need blood, as per recent statistics. An average adult has ten pints of blood in their body, which is roughly seven per cent of the body weight.
The blood banks usually run short of the rare blood groups and it is important for everyone to contribute to the cause. Each blood donation can help up to three patients, increasing the joy of sharing.
