(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, May 22 (KUNA) -- Italian Ambassador to Beirut Massimo Marotti announced Tuesday his country will supply the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces with USD 2.4 million military equipment.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun received the Italian Ambassador who briefed him with measures taken by Italy to support the Lebanese army and security forces as stipulated in (Rome 2) International Conference.
During their meeting, the two sides discussed Italy's participation in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and Italian nomination of one of its top military officers to lead the international forces in southern Lebanon after the end of its current Irish commander, General Michael Perry's mandate.
On his part, Lebanese President expressed his thanks to all support given by the Italian government, praising the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Rome 2 Conference, which was held in Rome last March, aimed at supporting the internationl protection and improving Lebanese army's capabilities with participation of more than 40 countries, in addition to the United Nations, European Union, and the Arab League.(end) wsm.nhq
