Australian convicts archbishop of covering up sexual assault


(MENAFN) An Australian archbishop has been found guilty of covering up child sexual assault, putting him at the top of senior members of the Roman Catholic church to be charged and convicted.

Philip Wilson, the Archbishop of Adelaide, faces up to two years sentence in jail.

He was charged over covering up the assault of alterboys by the paedophile preacher James Fletcher in the 1970s, which he was acquitted from.

Wilson declared: "I will now have to consider the reasons and consult closely with my lawyers to determine the next steps,"
