Somalia: over six die in heavy downpour, flooding


(MENAFN) An official declared that over six people have died as hundreds of homes were devastated in heavy downpour and flooding in the Somali capital.

Abdirahman Omar Osman Yarisow, the city's mayor confirmed: "The rains have caused the deaths of at least six people, including three children, in the last 48 hours in Mogadishu,".

He added that more than 301 houses have been devastated, leading to the loss of nearly USD 35 million.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced that the rain is recorded as the heaviest in Somalia since the 80s.
