(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A voluntary organisation's Friday iftars are becoming a blessing for commuters, taxi drivers and the public. The massive iftar gathering is organised at the lawn near the Burj Sahwa taxi stand in Rusayl.
Called Pratheeksha Oman, the team organises iftars for public every Friday.
'Pratheeksha Oman is a group of like-minded people that has been working for supporting humanitarian and eco-friendly activities in Muscat. The group comprises 20 expatriates and their families. Our activities include, organising blood donation drives, organ donation awareness programmes, public iftars and distribution of cold water for labourers working in outdoor sites,' said Ashraf Ali, the convenor of the group this year.
Organising iftars is an important activity of the group and it has been doing this since its inception in 2012. 'Pratheeksha Oman has been conducting community iftars since 2012 on every Friday during Ramadan. All the arrangements are done by our volunteers. Some well-wishers too extend a helping hand and we are always open to such like-minded people,' said Ali.
The volunteering team is careful about following the safety and health norms while serving food to such huge gatherings.
'All our volunteers ensure they wear a cap and disposable gloves while serving food. The team reaches the site at 4pm with all the necessary things. The iftar platter includes water, laban, juice, fruits and other snacks that are served first. This is followed by biryani. The group caters to approximately 250 to 300 people every Friday.'
Pratheeksha Oman does not discriminate between Muslims and non-Muslims. 'Our aim is to serve the best to all,' said Ali. The office bearers of the group include Reji K Thomas (president), Sasi Kumar (secretary) and Jayashankar (treasurer).
