(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) and Qatar University (QU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a referral pathway to co-ordinate the delivery of clinical services by QU Health Clinic and Qatar University PHCC health centre that will open later this year.
The MoU presents joint-working protocols. Agreements will help set standards to enable both organisations to work together to provide the best healthcare services to the students, faculty and staff of Qatar University.
The referral process established takes into consideration the current QU Health Clinic organisational structure and available services and that of the Qatar University PHCC Health Centre.
The new Qatar University PHCC health centre (Type B), is located immediately outside QU campus, approximately 1.5km from the main Women's Clinic. All students living within the QU campus will be eligible to be registered at the Qatar University PHCC health centre. Staff and students who do not fall in the catchment area for Qatar University health centre and need urgent or priority care can also be referred to the PHCC centre. PHCC's executive director for operations, Dr Samya al-Abdulla, said,'Our aim is to create an easy pathway for our patients and bring access to health care services closer to home.
Alongside our colleagues at Qatar University, we have established clear communication channels and committed workforce between the two organisations with a shared vision and understanding. This MoU will help us to streamline patient care by establishing clear referral pathways that will impact positively on the health outcomes of patients.
Prof Egon Toft, vice president, Medical and Health Sciences and dean of the College of Medicine at Qatar University, added, 'We are pleased to further expand our ongoing collaboration with PHCC. This MoU reflects Qatar University's commitment to offer its residing students an improved health care, adding to QU Health Clinic support.
Dr Hafsa Hashad, head of QU Health Clinic, commented, 'We strongly believe that QU Health Clinic alongside Qatar University PHCC health centre can greatly benefit the QU community by providing integrated healthcare services to all students living within the QU campus by ensuring immediate medical response to the urgent or priority cases.
