Kuwait's Hlt. Min.: Participation in World Health Assembly significant


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, May 21 (KUNA) -- The agenda of the 71st session of the World Health Assembly, which kicked off Monday, includes several important topics to promote global health security and support health system capabilities, Kuwaiti Health Minister Sheikh Basel Al-Sabah said.
آ آ آ This came in his statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of the opening of the 71st session, which runs from 21 to 26 May at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
آ آ آ The Minister of Health explained that Kuwait's participation in this huge global meeting is an opportunity to meet with health leaders and specialists and to present achievements of the State of Kuwait in these areas, documented by indicators, as well as exchanging experiences with the heads and members of participating delegations, consultants and experts of the World Health Organization (WHO).
آ آ آ Al-Sabah stressed the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health's pride in cooperating with the WHO through participation in decision-making and recommendations through the World Health Assembly, the Executive Council and the Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean.
آ آ آ He also pointed to the ministry's keenness to implement these decisions and benefit from them to modernize and develop health policies, strategies and programs in line with the latest international developments to address the challenges related to international health systems, including the health system in Kuwait.
آ آ آ The Kuwaiti Minister pointed out that health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan, would also be discussed in the regional and international frameworks to identify the difficulties faced by the brethren in the occupied Palestinian territories in the medical and health sector.
آ آ آ He added that topics discussed by this General Assembly are huge, saying that Kuwait is keen to participate in the discussions, especially those dealing with the preparedness and response plans to health emergencies, pandemic, influenza and follow-up implementation of the Convention on the International Health Regulations.
آ آ آ He also noted that there is correlation between negative climate impacts on health and environment and their impact on physical activity, which will be the subject of a broad debate at the World Health Assembly deliberations.
آ آ آ At the same time, he explained that the Assembly would also address the Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health, including maternal and infant nutrition. (end) ta.tg
