Financial crisis forces KP govt to scrap uplift projects in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has scrapped several development projects in Nowshera district, the hometown of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, owing to prevailing financial crisis.

The projects include expansion of Police Commando Training School Ismail Khel, Nowshera Industrial Estate, Rashakai Economic Zone and a two-kilometer road in CM Khattak constituency.

Besides, deputy commissioner Nowshera had imposed Section 4 for acquisition of land for several projects that was withdrawn due to unavailability of funds in government exchequer.

The government imposed section 4 for acquisition of 42 kanal land for construction of training center for police commando training in 2013 but the owners could not be paid the amount for their lands. DC Nowshera has confirmed that he has sent more than 30 letters to the concerned departments for payment of compensation to owners of the land but to no avail.

Officials sources said that district government spent over Rs42 million on acquisition of land by imposing section 4 that was later de-notified.

CM Khattak has promised people of the district that the economic zone would bring prosperity and two MoUs were signed with two international firms for Nowshera Industrial Estate near Rashakai Interchange on motorway.

The government got 231 kanal land by imposing section 4 in April 2015 but so far no owner could be compensated after which the district government was left with no option but to withdraw Section 4.

The CM once claimed that KP government has signed 82 projects worth 23.5 billion dollars including 2000 MW hydro-power plants, Hattar Industrial Estate, Chinses investment in Rashakai Industrial Estate and construction of gas-powered turbines to generate 225 MW each Canadian governemnt's financial assistance.

He said that Chinese government had demanded 40,000 kanal of land of which 1000 kanal land has been acquired while the remaining would be provided with passage of time.

Moroever, DC Nowhsera also de-notified 1216 kanal land acquired for construction of two-kilometer Miraje to Bahadur Baba Road through section 4 due to non-payment of compensation amount to owners.
