Afghanistan: more than 60 militants die in 48 hour battle


(MENAFN) Military spokesman Mohammad Hanif Rezai declared that up to 63 militants belonging to the Taliban group have died in the last 48 hours amid counter-offensive missions by government forces in Afghanistan's northern province of Jauzjan.

The official added that Taliban militants carried out many pronged attacks on security forces checkpoints in the Qarqin district of the unrest province.

Security forces reciprocated, leaving militants evacuating after 63 members have died, along with another 27 whom were wounded, according to the spokesman.

Rezai confirmed that six security personnel have died in the battle against militants in Qarqin district.
