Afghanistan- Flash floods kill nine in Balkh


(MENAFN- Afghanistan Times) AT-KABUL: At least nine people died and hundreds of house destroyed after flash floods hit different districts in the northern province of Balkh, officials said Saturday. 'The floods struck districts of Kholm, Sholgar, Chemtal, Charkent and Shakandi after spring rainfalls,' said Rahmatullah Zahed, head of the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority's provincial office. He said that two of deceased were women, adding that hundreds of houses were damaged or destroyed due to the floods came after a three-day rainfall. Zahed said that scores of animals were perished and tens of hectares of farmlands were damaged. 'Two villages have been completely damaged in the Kholm district, in which, hundreds of families suffered,' he said. Zahed said that emergency aids were distributed to the affected people, but they need more aids. Isa Khan, resident of Kholm, said that his house was damaged and his animals were perished due to the floods. He asked for government's assistance.
