Oman- Global Accessibility Awareness Day focuses on inclusive tech


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- To mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Mi Store at Oman Avenues Mall organised a workshop for visually impaired individuals. The workshop promoted digital accessibility and inclusion for people with all disabilities. The day was marked in association with Al Noor Association for the Blind.

The workshop was conducted by Ali al Amri, a helpdesk specialist from the Information Technology Authority. Amri who is also visually impaired explained how technology and how Apple products in particular can easily be used by visually impaired individuals. 'We should take advantage of technology in our life. Apple has so many options for the visually impaired and we should use them for our convenience,' Amri said. He also demonstrated the working of various apps and features to the members of Al Noor Association for the Blind.

'Popular accessibility options on Apple products include VoiceOver on iPhone, which reads out text displayed on the device screen. There is also an option to accomplish tasks like turning on lights, or changing the temperature by just speaking near an iOS device,' he said.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of May. It is all about getting people to think and talk about making the Web accessible to people with various disabilities.
