India: five police officers die in Maoist rebels mine


(MENAFN) Indian police declared that over five policemen have died as another two were seriously wounded when Maoist rebels throw a bomb aimed at their vehicle.

They added that the rebels blew a land mine, as an armored vehicle drove over it it in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh state.

The wounded officers have been taken to a hospital in serious state.

The Maoist rebels, inspired by Chinese insurgency head Mao Zedong, have been battling the Indian government for over 40 years, calling for land and jobs for tenant farmers, the poor and indigenous communities.
