Sri Lanka: downpour, floods kills 3, affect 8000


(MENAFN) The Disaster Management Center declared that three people have died as at least 8,000 more were influenced in heavy downpour ad raging winds through Sri Lanka, leaving officials in disaster management ready to probable evacuation.

The three victims died in lightning, as they were found in the Eastern District of Trincomalee and in the lower central hills of Badulla.

Weather reports showed: "The Southwest monsoon conditions are getting established over the island. Very heavy falls, about 150 millimeters can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa province while heavy falls, above 100 millimeters can be expected at some places, particularly in Western Central and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts," .

More than 200 people have died, and another 78 have disappeared when the southwest monsoons triggered floods and landslides through Sri Lanka last year.
