Google Maps is not working on some Huawei, Honor phones
20 May 2018

It has come to light that Google Maps has stopped working on some Huawei and Honor phones like Mate 7, Mate 8, Mate 9, P20, P10, and View 10.

Under the weird glitch, when users open Google Maps or any other app that integrates/depends on its functionality (like Uber), they are presented with the following error message: Google Play Services are updating.

Both Huawei and Google have acknowledged the problem
Fix

The problem reportedly stemmed from the latest Google Play Services update (version 12.6.73), so Google has rolled out a new beta version to resolve the issue.

It will be slowly rolled out to users over the next few days or alternatively, you can also join the public Google Play Services beta program yourself.

In any case, the issue might take some days to patch.

Another way of fixing bug: clear cache and reboot device
Alternative

Go to your phone's Settings. From the main menu, go to "Apps." In some cases, you will see the option of "Apps and Notifications." Tap that and then go to "Apps."

Scroll down to Google Play Services. Tap "Storage" and then "Clear cache."

Finally, go to "Manage Space" and click on "Clear all data." This should make Google Maps work.
