Pakistan- ATC acquits Baldev Kumar in slain Soran Singh's murder case

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court has acquitted Baldev Kumar on Thursday who was charged in muder case of former advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Soran Singh.

The ATC judge Jamalud Din stated that the decision was taken on grounds of improper evidence as the prosecution failed to provide any solid evidence.

In April 2016, Sardar Soran Singh was shot by unidentified men near his residence at Pir Baba Buner. In his case, Baldev Kumar and five others were charged with murder case.

Sardar Soran Singh was elected on a reserved seat for non-muslim minorities on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ticket in 2013 elections and appointed as advisor to Chief Minister.

The police had arrested a few men pertaining to Singh's murder, who confessed that Baldev Kumar was involved in Singh's murder so that he could replace him in the provincial assembly and that he had a tiff with Singh over being elected as special advisor to CM.

After the killing of Singh, the accused was facing trials in ATC, however, the Election Commisson of Pakistan informed Baldev Kumar that he was allowed to take oath of his office but resistence from PTI leaders put the procedure on a stand still

Five other accused involved in the case were also released. They are identified as Alam Khan, Said Jan, Akbar Ali, Baroz Khan and Mukhtiar Muhammad.

On the other side, the PTI government has challenged the decision of ATC in Peshawar High Court. In this regard, Shaukat Yousafzi, advisor to CM stated that he will approach the court to provide justice to his friend Soran Singh.
