Qatar University Library hosts annual Book Fair

DOHA: Qatar University Library organised its annual week-long Book Fair to commemorate the World Book Day.

The event was aimed to promote the culture of reading among students. It featured an exhibition of local publishing and distributing houses, various book discussions, and local writers signing sessions.

Qatar University Library Director Samia Al Shiba said: 'The annual Book Fair aims to spread knowledge among the community and to support the efforts of local writers and publishers. It is an important annual platform that promotes dialogue on contemporary issues that are of the interest of Qatari society in particular and the region in general.

She added: 'Celebrating this day across the country highlights the importance of books as the original source of information and as a tool for dialogue between different cultures. Qatar University Library is committed to support the University's vision to be regionally recognized for distinctive excellence in education and research.

The World Book Day was designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is observed in over 100 countries worldwide.
