Seminar highlights Qatar's unique architecture

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A seminar held at the Ministry of Culture and Sports on the architecture identity in the Gulf region highlighted the uniqueness of Qatari architecture and its exclusivity.
Speaking during the seminar, Qatari visual artist Mohamed Ali Abdullah said that architecture in western Qatar has been one of the centres of cultural enlightenment in Gulf countries thanks to its unique designs as well as the decorations that distinguish them as opposed to the plant decorations in Western architecture.
Abdullah stressed that Qatar is doing its best to protect such heritage and archaeological sites, foremost of which is Souq Waqif, old houses, Barzan Tower, Souq Al Wakrah, and other landmarks that reflect the state's keenness on supporting national identity and consolidating it among generations.
He highlighted the importance of making the current generation aware about that heritage as well as subsequent generations.
He addressed the important features of architecture in Qatar and the Gulf, highlighting in a presentation several historic and heritage sites that he helped in their restoration.
Abdullah said that he has followed the scientific methods in the restoration of historic houses and sites in order to preserve them against time.
He pointed out that the houses that were built in the 60s of the last century have been restored in the same architectural styles, depending on photographs that document that architecture, stressing the need to employ the historic site that is restored according to scientific standards in order for it not to be endangered.
