Champions League: Reds supporter attacked by Roma fans

A Liverpool supporter is said to be in critical condition after being attacked by AS Roma fans prior to the Champions League first leg semi-final encounter in Anfield.

Reports state that two men have been arrested in connection to the assault and have been booked for attempt to murder charges.

The man from Ireland has suffered a severe head injury.

Both clubs released an official statement condemning the horrific incident.

The Italian club, in its statement, claimed that some fans behaving abhorrently have brought shame to the club.

Liverpool have stated that the club's thoughts are with the victim and his family.

The club has also been liaising with emergency services since the ghastly incident, which took place on Tuesday.

It has been reported that around 80 Roma fans gathered on a side road filled with Liverpool supporters. One fan was seen lying on the ground. The incident happened near Albert pub as confirmed by the Police.

The UEFA released a statement saying that they will punish the assailants with severity as this behaviour can't be tolerated.

The alleged assailants are believed to be a total of nine men between 20 and 43 years of age.

These people have been arrested in the past for various offences during match-days.

They have been found carrying offensive weapons.
