Pakistan- CJP visits Balakot, reviews rehabilitation of 2005 earthquake


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) BALAKOT: The Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar visited Balakot to assist the rehabilitation and relief work for victims of 2005 earthquake.

Earlier, the CJP heard a case pertaining to embezzlement of USD 5million financial assistance extended by international community for rehabilitaion of 2005 earthquake and probed into the case.

Nisar inquired the secretary finance about the earthquake victims funds to which he replied that the money is allocated for planning and development by the Finance Ministry Department.

The secretary finance maintained that USD 3 billion have been received through foreign aid however he has no clue about the aid received from within the country.

On this, the CJP decided to visit Balakot where he met the residents and listened to their grievances.

The top judge paid a visit to Balakot tehsil Headquarter Hospital where locals of the area complaint against the government and the non-government organization ERRA.

The staff of hospital reported to him that the hospitals in Balakot are non-functional. They also said that the only functional hospitals are being run by the locals.

The locals also criticized the federal, provincial government and Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) organization by saying that they haven't received any financial assistance from them up till now.

The 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Kashmir in 2005 killed over 75000 people, 138000 were injured and over 3.5 million rendered homeless.
