Pakistan- PHC bars govt from releasing Ehsanullah Ehsan

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday observed that the government cannot release former Jamaatul Ahrar (JuA) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan without a court order.

A two-member bench of the PHC comprising Justice Qaisar Rashid and Justice Ikramullah Khan heard the petition filed by the father of an Army Public School (APS) attack victim.

The court observed that if Ehsanullah Ehsan had taken responsibility for the APS attack then only the parents of the victims, not the state, can to pardon him.

The petitioner had prayed the court to ensure that the ex-TTP spokesman is not pardoned.

Deputy Attorney General Musaratullah Khan assured the court that the government does not intend to release Ehsan and he is under investigation. The court ordered the court to properly investigate Ehsan, who had surrendered to the security forces in April 2017. The DAG said the case will be sent to the military court after investigation.

The heinous terrorist attack on the APS Peshawar on 16 December, 2014 claimed 144 lives and most of them were students. The attack, considered to be the most heinous and brutal in the country's history, was claimed by the TTP through its then spokesman Ehsan.
