10 dead after van hits pedestrians in Toronto


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) TORONTO: Ten people were killed and 15 others injured as a speeding van rammed into pedestrians on Yonge Street between Finch Avenue and Sheppard Avenue in Toronto, Canada.

Police officials reported that the accused driver has been taken into custody. The accused has been identified as 25-year-old Alek Minassian.

The police chief Mark Saundars during a press release stated that the accused driver is a resident of Northern Toronto suburb of Richmond Hill however he possesses no criminal history.

He further said that the driver was arrested 26 minutes after the first emergency call was made.

Answering a question, he police chief reported that they haven't found the apprehended driver's association with any international terrorists' organizations.

However it appears to be a deliberate attack but the motive was not clear, maintained Saundars.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated the senseless attack as tragic and showed deep sadness over it.
