(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) GHALLANAI: The political administration of Mohmand Agency on Monday destroyed poppy crop cultivated on 45 kanals land Prang Ghar tehsil.
The administration said that on the direction of Political Agent Wasif, Assistant Political Agent Tauseef Khalid and Tehsildar Jamshed initiated operation against poppy crops on 2 April. It said poppy crop has been destroyed on 800 kanals land in different areas of Prang Ghar tehsil so far.
According to the administration officials, most farmers have cultivated poppy crop in Yousaf Baba area. They said poppy crop has been destroyed from 60 percent farms in the said area and the remaining crop will also be destroyed. The Levies and Khassadar Force personnel are helping the administration in carrying out the operation.
The administration has also destroyed poppy crop from the remote areas of Mohmand Agency situated near the Pak-Afghan border. Such operation is carried out every year, but the farmers of Mohmand Agency still cultivate poppy crop. Officials say the local people are growing poppy crop since last many centuries that is why it is not an easy task to end this practice completely.
